Hillary Rodham Clinton released the first television spot of her Senate (参议院)campaign this morning, a 30-second commercial that will begin airing statewide on Thursday. The spot, titled \"First,\" uses numerous still photos to highlight (强调)landmarks in Mrs. Clinton’s career, while the voiceover says she is \"more than a first lady.\"

There is no mention of Mrs. Clinton’s rival for New York's Senate seat, New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson said the ad was \"positive\" and \"biographical,\" instead of focusing on the first lady’s opponent.

Mrs. Clinton has previously aired radio ads, but has generally stayed with a strategy of making extensive campaign appearances instead of using television spots, while Giuliani has already run statewide TV ads.

Text of Hillary Commercial:

First she became a lawyer, named one of the top hundred in America.

Her first cause was children, fighting abuse and chairing the board of the Children's Defense Fund.

Her first priority was public schools, helping to establish teacher testing.

More than a first lady. For 30 years, she's fought for children and families.

Even people who spent just a few hours a week on he Internet experienced more bad feelings and loneliness than those who was online less frequently the two-year study showed. Researchers are puzzling over the results, which were completely contrary to their expectations They expected that the Net would prove socially healthier than television.since the Net allows users to choose their information and to communicate with others.

The fact that Internet use reduces time available for family and friends may account or the drop in psychological heath researchers hypothesized(推测)Faceless, bodiless “virtual\"(虚的)communication may be less psychologically satisfying than actual conversation, and the relationships formed through it may be shallower.Another possibility is that exposure to the wider world through the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.

Drilling or digging for oil has occurred in one way or another for hundreds of years. The Chinese, for instance, invented a bamboo rig to obtain oil and gas for lighting and cooking.

But only in the last 40 years has humankind been able to efficiently extract petroleum from beneath the seas-an achievement to rank with this century's mightiest technological triumphs.

In Australia, nearly 90 percent of our petroleum wealth is found offshore. The search is difficult, extremely expensive, and often fruitless-but critical to the nation's economic future.

Oil~~ lack gold-is one of the ocean's greatest resources. Today from crude oil we make gasoline for our cars, diesel fuel for our trucks and ships, and jet fuel for our airplanes. Crude oil is a mixture of organic chemicals (chemical compounds containing the element carbon) of liquids and dissolved gases which are of little use in its crude state. In addition, oil is used to generate electricity, heat our buildings, lubricate out machines, and even make plastics, detergents, rubbers, and chemicals. Oil has transformed our daily lives. In fact, nearly one-third of the world's oil comes from offshore fields in our oceans. Areas most popular for oil drilling are the Arabian Gulf, the North Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico.

The new deep ocean drilling, by use of the latest technology, aims at drilling operation at greater depth than were possible by conventional methods. At the same time, through recovery of samples of rock and sedimentation as well as sensoring inside the bore hole, it should add knowledge to such issues of mankind as global warming, earthquake, and the origin of life. It was fifteen past nine as Marie hurried into the office building where she was going to work. Her bus had inched along through heavy morning traffic, making her a few minutes late for her very first job. She decided to start out half an hour earlier the next day.

Once inside the lobby, she had to stand at the elevators and wait several minutes before she could get on one going to the sixth floor. When she finally reached the office marked \"Smith Enterprisesapped on the door again, but still there was no answer From inside the next office, she could hear the sound of voices, so she opened the door and went in.

had the interview with Mr. Smith, it looked quite different now. In fact, it hardly looked like an office at all. The employees were just standing around chatting and smoking. In the front of the room, somebody must have just told a good joke, she thought, because there was a loud burst of laughter as she came in. For a moment she had thought they were laughing at her.

Then one of the men looked at his watch, clapped his hands and said something to the others. Quickly they all went to their desks and, in a matter of seconds, everyone was hard at work. No one paid any attention to Marie. Finally she went up to the man who was sitting at the desk nearest to the door and explained that this was her first day in the office. Hardly looking up from his work, he told her to have a seat and wait for Mr. Smith, who would arrive at any moment. Then Marie realized that the day*s work in the office began just before Mr. Smith arrived. Later she found out that he lived in Connecticut and came into Manhattan on the same train every morning, arriving in the office at 9:35, so that his staff knew exactly when to start working. BDDDA
