I stopped writing in my journal. There didn't seem to be anything left to say. I was worried about money, but didn't have the energy to find work. Then, out of the blue, I got a call from a playwright who'd heard about my situation. She knew my work. "I'd love for you to be in my play. You don't have to move—just sit in a chair and read monologues. It will do you good." She was right. Being someone else in the theater was a wele break from my life. I could focus my energy on something besides my grief and the stress of caring for the girls, if only for a few hours.
